We have tasted for you Dal Maso 's Riva del Molino, Gambellara DOC 2016

Incomprehensibly some Italian wine areas have not managed to conquer over time the fame and prestige they deserve. Among these there are certainly the hills of Gambellara and the nearby Colli Berici, in our opinion, two of the most suitable Italian territories for the production of quality wines on the border between Verona and Vicenza. Territories where there are both ideal microclimatic conditions and soils, able to give wines with a strong identity value.
In these two areas the Dal Maso winery, among the most interesting, courageous and dynamic interpreters of this land, has been present for four generations.
In fact Nicola Dal Maso is one of the best interpreters of this land today and has tried, in particular, to enhance two unique native vines such as Garganega and Tai Rosso.
After having recently tasted their "historic" Garganega Ca 'Fischele (one of the best for us of this type), we were lucky enough to taste also their Garganega aged for six months in oak barrels of 15 hl and we had an important confirmation: the extraordinary ductility of this extraordinary white grape capable of giving wines of great immediacy and drinkability and, at the same time, wines that are much more complex, elegant and structured.
Riva del Molino 2016 is one of the most intriguing Garganega we've ever tasted. It has a very wide range of aromas, among which the citrus scents, with the freshness of the mandarin orange peel, and the hottest notes of the ripest yellow fruit (fishing in particular) appeared immediately to the nose. Also known floral notes of elderberry and orange flower but also the typical sensations of honey of Garganega when it is slightly overripe. In the mouth we feel the most important structure dictated by aging in wood but this does not deprive the wine of a beautiful freshness and fragrance that guarantee an excellent drinkability. We paired it with some extraordinary squid in the "plank" (grilled) and we made ourself a nice present.
Dal Maso's history goes through four generations and arrives until nowadays, with Nicola, Silvia and Anna that manage the company with passion and effort. The heart of Dal Maso is the circular-structured wine cellar, sourrounded by the three wine's production zones: Colli Berici, Gambellara DOC and Lessini Doc areas, located on the border between Vicenza's and Verona's provinces. This ones have always been excellent locations for the
production of great wines, thanks to an optimal solar exposure, a unique microclimate and a characteristic geological composition of the soil. One of the purposes of Dal Maso is value local wine varieties, as Tai Rosso, Garganega and Durella, always keeping an eye on the future and, meanwhile, mantaining a solid linkage with the tradition.
