We had the opportunity to taste this wine during Christmas Holidays and it was definitely one of the best white ones: Lugana DOC 2015 Fermentazione Spontanea by La Sansonina. It is not “just” the winery of Carla Prospero, wife of the dear departed Sergio Zenato and mother to Nadia and Alberto, who were able to take up a heavy legacy. La Sansonina is actually a winery that gained, over the years, a more and more important space in the dynamic enological scenario of Verona, especially the one of Lugana area. This Lugana Fermentazione Spontanea (meaning spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes) sincerely convinced us right from the first sip. To the nose you first get white flowers and then more and more evident notes of tropical and dry fruits. To the palate you get pleasant mineral notes and fragrance that guarantee extraordinary drinkability. We paired it with excellent swordfish carpaccio appetizer and it was perfect.
LA SANSONINA
Sansonina is a company with a 13-hectare vineyard that lies in the southern moraine of Lake Garda, near In Peschiera del Garda. In 1997 Carla took on a new challenge with her daughter Nadia, to painstakingly revive an ancient Merlot grape variety, launching the production of a red wine in the land of whites: the Sansonina.
2008, however, is the first vintage of Lugana Sansonina. In 2016 Evaluna, Garda DOC Cabernet, vintage 2014, and Sansonina Vigna del Moraro Verde, Lugana DOC spontaneous fermentation, vintage 2014, have made their entry into the market.
