We’ve been saying, for a long time now, that an extraordinary grape like Perricone needs to be valued. To demonstrate the qualitative potential of this Sicilian autochthonous, we highly recommend Perricone Terre Siciliane by Tenute Orestiadi, for us one of the most interesting examples of this style of wine. Not surprisingly it’s made from vineyards located 300 mt above sea level in Bèlice Valley, in the province of Trapani, probably the best spot to enhance its qualities.
Tenute Orestiadi has been proving to be one of the most dynamic companies in the Sicilian oenological landscape. A company born as the result of the synergy between a cooperative of winemakers and Fondazione Orestiadi, an important Art and Culture Institute in the Mediterranean area, aiming to promote the identity of local grape through the union of art and wine.
Perricone 2015 is a fascinating wine, starting from its colour, an intense purple and an aromatic bouquet, notes of fruits, especially mixed berries, such as blueberry and currant, but also spicy notes like rose pepper and myrtle. At the palate it’s smoothly tannic and intense at the same time, a good medium body with a licorice note in the end that makes it truly special.
We paired it medium aged cheese and it was delightful.
TENUTE ORESTIADI
In Sicily, island with a long-standing wine growing tradition, there are the Tenute Orestiadi’s vineyards, born in Gibellina by wine growers cooperative and the Orestiadi Foundation, one of the most important cultural institutions in the Mediterranean region, to promote the identity of Sicilian indigenous grapes through the union of art and wine. Tenute Orestiadi is an ancient name that evokes distant memories of myths and legends, that in facts in Sicily has found life thanks to Aeschylus, that more than twenty centuries ago wrote and brought to the stage the legend of ORESTES and the ORESTIADI.
