The more time passes, the more we become convinced of the importance of demonstrating that white wines of extraordinary complexity and longevity can be made. Italian territory has the potentiality to give age-worthy white wines. Among these wine there is certainly Pecorino and a perfect demonstration of what longevity can be in this wine comes from Velenosi with its Rêve Pecorino Offida docg.

We tasted the 2018 edition and it was one of the best whites that we tasted in summer 2020.

Velenosi family dared a late harvest in order to obtain a complete grape maturation and a more structured wine. The wine takes more complexity from the fermentation that is made for the 50% of must in new barriques and the other 50% in steel. The two liquids are mixed in the end in order to be bottled 24 months after the harvest.

In our opinion, the result of all this process is an excellent wine, that charms the nose with tropical fruit (pineapple and banana) but also balsamic and floral (hawthorn) hints and a final elegant vanilla touch. In the mouth it is opulent but the acidic shoulder makes it agile and pleasant to drink. It is clear that we are dealing with a Pecorino that will give satisfaction even in a few years and we are curious to follow its evolution.

We paired it with a chicken curry, even if we knew it was an easy and successful choice, so we dared with a sliced beef steak and it was much less obvious.

Company Profile

The Velenosi winery was founded in 1984 by the will of two very young entrepreneurs, Angela and Ercole Velenosi. Then with the experience of Dr. Paolo Garbini, Velenosi Srl was established in 2005. Over 35 years of experience in the sector and strong passion have allowed us to create this reality where, through the use of cutting-edge equipment, exceptional wine is produced. The heart of the company is located in the historic city of Ascoli Piceno, which is located in the Marche region and a distance of about 20 km from the Adriatic Sea and at a height of 150/200 meters above sea level. The farms of the company extend among the hills that surround the splendid valley of the Tronto river, which thanks to its clayey and fertile soils, has always been suited to the cultivation of vines. In addition to the four farms located in Ascoli Piceno, Castorano, Monsampolo and Castel di Lama, there is a vineyard in the area of Ancarano (TE) and in the area of San Marcello (AN), between the Castles of Jesi. From the beginning, the winery has achieved great success with journalistic criticisms. Published in the most renowned national and international newspapers such as: Wine Spectator, Robert Parker, Gambero Rosso, Luca Maroni, A.I.S. and many others. This is why it is present throughout the national territory with the collaboration of 85 agencies and abroad where it is present on 52 nations both in Europe and in the rest of the world. Production to date is around 2,500,000 bottles and expectations certainly do not stop there.
