If there’s a red wine that nowadays perfectly encounters the characteristics of drinkability and instant pleasantness, that wine is Bardolino. For too many years some people, producers included, wrongly considered it the less fortunate neighbour of Valpolicella. Actually, Bardolino has a very strong identity, the result of varieties like Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone, that in this particular part of northern “Mediterranean”, the amazing Lake Garda, found the perfect location to fully express their fruity aroma.
Thanks to a never excessive percentage of alcohol, Bardolino embodies all the characteristics of an “old” and traditional wine, yet “modern” at the core, able to combine structure (not excessive nor extremely powerful) with elegance and refinement.
An excellent example is this Vigna Morlongo di Villabella that has sheer notes of fresh fruits. An explosion of red fruit hits the nose. Strawberry, raspberry, and typical cherry notes meet cloves. The palate is fragrant, very harmonious, with again a final note of red fruits that guarantees persistence and an incredible drinkability. We paired it a classic Italian aperitif of cured meats and cheese and it was the perfect welcome to our dinner.
