In Molise, a small region overlooking the Adriatic Sea, viticulture has an ancient history. It is no coincidence that Bixio Poderi chose it as the production area of the Petaciato blend: a powerful, strong and elegant identity wine, which reflects the characteristic of heterogeneity typical of these areas. The varied ampelographic heritage welcomes the indigenous Montepulciano, of uncertain origin but indisputably appreciated, which is suitable for mature and long-term expressions, such as this 2013 Riserva. In this wine Montepulciano meets Aglianico and finds richness and the right amount of austerity. Even if the body is clearly of great structure, it is the Aglianico with its developed, readily ripe and silky tannins that deserves our full attention. However, it is not always easy to relate to sips of this concentration, capable of easily marking the 14 volumes in alcohol.
Petaciato Riserva 2013, on the other hand, enjoys the flexibility of an assembly that finds, first in a separate vinification, and only subsequently, after aging in 25-hectolitre barrels, the fullness of harmony. Enveloping, persistent, it is an affable dark red, characterized by an interesting verticality. A straight path of dark plums and red fruits, ripe cherries and sweet spices, stemmed by a robust body, more sensual than ever.
We tasted it at the end of the meal, paired with mature and savory cheeses, just before letting it perfect as a "meditation wine".
Bixio has always been synonymous with Soave, over the years it has also evolved and extended to the area of the Arcole, and now it turns its gaze towards the south, in a region still little known, Molise. In 2016, driven by the desire to diversify our wine production rooted in Veneto and to face a new challenge, we purchased about ten hectares in Molise, a small region of central-southern Italy with great potential for the production of quality wines. We have elected Petacciato, a small town in an enchanting position between sky and sea, as the site of our Molise productions. This year, for the first time, we have presented the wines of this area where sun, unique soils and the sea are the perfect premises for rich and fragrant wines. This estate represents the commitment to always our courage, to be active witnesses of a world - the wine-producing world - that never ceases to be passionate. We have solid roots and eyes always on the horizon.
