To write about Merlot is always a great joy for us. A wine that has made history in much of Northern Italy, a vine that originates from beyond the Alps, from the Gironde, and over many years has also become a symbol in our most suited territories.
The Stocco winery has long known its terroir, and the “Roos dai Lens” Merlot we tasted today from the 2019 vintage can be described as a “genuine” expression of this part of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The Merlot from Stocco is balanced in its deep red color with bright ruby nuances. Poured into a large glass, it immediately reveals its breadth of fruit and the typical vegetal component of the vine.
The aromas range from delicate wild roses to underbrush red fruits, then open up to notes of oriental wood, sweet cocoa, and mint, leaving that olfactory curiosity typical of well-made wines.
On the palate, its roundness fully embraces the smoothness, culminating in very harmonious notes that finish the sip in a long and enveloping manner.
A Merlot, the Roos dai Lens, suitable for dishes where meat is the protagonist, but also with high-quality cheeses and cured meats where it always exhibits great cleanliness on the palate.
We suggest pairing it with roasted duck or guinea fowl accompanied by grilled polenta to enhance the great balance of this Friulian Merlot.
