If Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine has had an extraordinary qualitative growth and international notoriety over time, it owes a lot to the Zaccagnini winery that over forty years ago, from the small village of Bolognano, in the Pescara hills, started a path that has led to become one of the symbolic realities of high quality Abruzzo viticulture.
In particular Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Il Tralcetto” (perhaps one of the most recognizable packaging among Italian wines in the world, with that vine branch tied to the bottle neck) made consumers from every corner of the world understand the values of this great red wine.
This wine combines characteristics that are difficult to find in other types of wine: immediacy, exuberance but also elegance, without appearing banal.
We found these same features in the 2018 vintage of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Il Tralcetto” by Zaccagnini. The short passage in wood for 4 months in Slavonian oak barrels does not soften its great “fruity” power that comes to the nose with those typical notes of violets, berries, but also ripe cherries enveloped in a spicy texture of black pepper and licorice. In the mouth great balance, harmony, an important but never intrusive, excessive structure and a persistent finish where the sensations of red fruit return.
We paired it with a very tasty cut of Fassona meat and it was an ideal marriage.
Bolognano in the heart of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
In Bolognano, on the hills near Pescara, every year Zaccagnini produces wonderful wines that are popular worldwide, winning many highly prestigious international wine awards. Our excellence, the passion and dedication with which we perform our work, our close bond with the earth and our love of art have made our “Tralcetto” wines the pride and joy of the wine-making industry in Abruzzo on an international scale. Today the company produces approximately more than 6 million bottles every year and exports over 85% of its production to 45 countries in 5 continents. And yet, when talking about Cantina Zaccagnini wine is only half the story. Established in 1978, the company immediately gained a name for itself as a place where wine meets and bonds with art. Indeed, “Wine, art of man” has been the slogan for the company philosophy since 1984, when internationally renowned artist Joseph Beuys presented his “Defending Nature” project in the barrel store. From then on, the rooms and outdoor spaces of Cantina became the venue of a permanent exhibition, with sculptures and works by artists of global prestige.Azienda Agricola Ciccio Zaccagnini S.r.l. c.da Pozzo, snc Bolognano, PE 65020 IT +39 085 888 0195 – firstname.lastname@example.org www.cantinazaccagnini.it
