To avoid any misunderstanding, let us immediately declare our massive passion for Friulano, which we were fortunate to appreciate back when it could still be called Tocai.

We have always considered it as a “Democratic Noble,” meaning a wine that combines extraordinary elegance with a drinkability that makes it “understandable” for anyone.

Therefore, the Friulano speaks a “Friulian” language but is comprehensible at any latitude.

And, if we fell in love with Friulano, it is also thanks to wineries like Villa Russiz which, in the heart of Collio, in our opinion, have been able to demonstrate to the world which quality summit can be reached with this grape in what can be considered its ideal habitat.

We tasted the 2022 vintage, and once again, it was love at first sip; actually: it was love at first sniff, thanks to hints of fresh yellow fruit (apricot, peach), but also notes of wildflowers starting with chamomile.

In the mouth, there is great balance, a perfect mix between acidity and smoothness, and that almond finish that gives it an endless persistence. We paired it with another typical Friulian product, San Daniele ham, and it was a perfect match, two specialties destined to always go hand in hand.

Company Profile

Villa Russiz is located in the heart of the Collio region in Friuli Venezia Giulia, an area known for its unique microclimate, ideal for viticulture. The Julian Alps and the Adriatic Sea breezes create a perfect environment for grapes, contributing to the renowned quality of the Collio wines. This DOC area, with its approximately 1,500 hectares of vineyards, is internationally recognized for the excellence of its wines.

The story of Villa Russiz is one of love and dedication to the land and its fruits. In addition to producing high-quality wines, the Villa Russiz Foundation, which now manages the company, reinvests profits into the Casa Famiglia, supporting the local community. This social commitment sets Villa Russiz apart, making its operations not just an expression of oenological excellence but also a model of social responsibility.
