We are not far from the sea in Varramista, a place that can be defined as “out of time” for its beauty and historicity, rich in all those fragrances that characterize an area, still and partly outside the traditional routes, of regional tourism.
Frasca is a wine made with a majority of the main Tuscan grape variety, Sangiovese, which combined with two columns of international viticulture such as Merlot and Syrah, creates a blend of absolute thickness, harmonizing that set of characteristics so pleasing to the impact olfactory.
Closing the eyes, smelling this wine, the aromatic notes that lead to dark chocolate and licorice are enhanced, assembled by hints of leather and cigar tobacco and it is already in itself a triumph of curiosity that enriches the sense of smell. However, the whole body emerges on the palate, elegant, frank and full, making sure that the olfactory aromas return to the mouth in terms of great balance. Then tasting this wine the exciting note is the softness of its tannins, something never trivial when talking about the majority of Tuscan Sangiovese in the blend.
We would like to limit ourselves to writing about pairings with game or noble meat, but tasting it with a pasta dish with courtyard sauce gave moments of true nobility.
Fattoria Varramista S.p.A. is a Tuscan firm, with a past of noble Florentines families and modern entrepreneurs, that manufactures red wines in the wonderful Terre di Pisa land. In the ‘90s Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, who inherited the magnificent estate from his grandfather Enrico Piaggio, the inventor of Vespa scooter, implemented the re-conversion of the vineyards and production system under the guidance of Federico Staderini, the oenologist who carries on Dr. Agnelli’s project to date. The Sangiovese, the tipical Tuscan variety, was joined by some international varieties, like Syrah that was elected as the main grapevine and essential ingredient of Varramista, our cru. During the time we added three other wines, Frasca, Sterpato and Chianti Monsonaccio. Today we are focused on letting wine lovers and professionals visiting us and discovering how much attention and care we devote to our products.
