Curatolo Arini is the oldest winery in Marsala, still run by the heirs of its founder who in 1875 set up this important business that nowadays exports in all of the most important markets in the world. Since the begininng of the ’90 the winery also started an interesting single-varietal wines from local grapes from San Cataldo, near Caltanissetta, one of the most suited areas to produce high quality Nero d’Avola, according to experts. Surely Curatolo Arini Nero d’Avola 2012 is an excellent demonstration of this and is a wine that stresses elegance rather than strength. The smell has clear notes of mature dark fruits(mirtle and blackberry) but also spicy notes like cloves and a pleasant cocoa flavour. The taste reminds of fruity sensations in a perfect, silky armony with a long final note. We paired it with a well seasoned and spicy Fassona meat tartare, it was the perfect union for this wine.
CURATOLO ARINI 1875
Our family has been producing Marsala since 1875, the oldest family owned Marsala producer in Sicily, we are one of the very first to export to the USA, South America and Europe. The many international awards received for our efforts, since 1890 to today, are testimony to both the family’s entrepreneurial skills and the quality of our wines.
In the ’90s we created a new style of monovarietal wine, made only of Sicilian grape varieties which express the unique character and flavours of the Sicilian terroir.
Our wines are today the result of a close collaboration between our local winemaker, Nino Reina, and the renowned international winemaker Alberto Antonini. Our still wines are modern and fruit forward. They each express the unique and different places from which they come: we see our still wines as an expression of both the soil and of the grape variety. Our Marsalas are made combining traditional recipes and ways with innovative, modern techniques.
Today, after 5 generations Vito’s dream is kept alive by his grandson and great grandchildren.
