We are happy to review Ricossa’s Barolo Riserva DOCG 2009, not only because we loved it, as we will explain later, but also because it is part of Mondodelvino SpA, one of the most interesting and dynamic wine groups in the Italian wine industry. Now we’ll focus on a Barolo that really convinced us because it combines two characteristics only possible in great wines: an extraordinary elegance linked to an equally unique drinkability. It is a “Riserva” (five years aging to boast of this prestigious name) whose grapes are grown and harvested throughout the heart of the Langhe, in the area of Barolo. Only in this geographic area Nebbiolo grape has been able to express its most authentic and elegant identity. The Ricossa Barolo Riserva 2009 immediately declared itself to the nose with its clear hints of ripe red fruit (cherry in spirit), as well as elegant spicy notes of cloves, ending with a pleasant aroma of licorice. This is not to exclude peculiar notes of caramelized and pink pepper. In the mouth you can find a nice balance between alcohol and tannins, thanks to excellent winemaking and time spent in wooden barrels. The result is a mix of silkiness and fragrance, ideal for a wide range of combinations. We created a Veneto-Piedmont marriage: with a pairing of the exquisite Veronese boiled meat cart with the pearà sauce and a great Ricossa Barolo Riserva. A perfect choice.
