A historically significant vine from Emilia-Romagna, Malbo Gentile is most renowned for its ability to enhance the color and flavor of Lambrusco—especially Grasparossa—by adding lovely peppery and balsamic flavors.

Casali Viticultori, under the skilled guidance of the Emilia Wine group since 2014, has breathed new life into this intriguing Emilian vine by vinifying it alone to produce one of the most distinguished sweet sparkling red wines.

The eye-catching 1900 Malbo Gentile Dolce has an incredibly vivid purple-red tint.

Ripe berries dominate the bouquet, beginning with blackberries and raspberries and proceeding to plum and a beautiful violet note.

The mouthfeel is delightful and enveloping, with a fragrant acidity that prolongs it noticeably, and the finish is highlighted by a powerful return of the fruity notes.

We paired it with some delicious dark chocolate at the end of supper and we were pleasantly surprised.

Company Profile

Casali Viticultori’s history began in the year 1900 when Giuseppe Casali decided to make his family wine into a full-blown business. Our first Scandiano wine cellar, next to the historic Rocca del Boiardi castle, was soon too small and the winery’s growing market success and consequent increase in production meant moving to our current base in Pratissolo di Scandiano in the 1980s.

Casali Viticultori is now a benchmark in Reggio wine making and was incorporated into the Emilia Wine Group in late 2014.
