Sauvignon is among the varieties that have had the most distribution globally.

It is well-known that its chosen cradle is the Loire Valley, where Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé were born, making this wine popular in every corner of the planet.

More recently, Sauvignon has gained notoriety through its development in New Zealand’s legendary Marlborough Valley. In Italy, it has found an ideal habitat particularly in Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia, but it is in the latter region where the most interesting expressions and interpretations of this wine have been produced.

We recently confirmed this by tasting the Sauvignon De la Tour Collio DOC 2022 from Villa Russiz, which shows what it means to produce a great Sauvignon that stands up to “competitors” from other highly suited territories for this variety.

We tasted the 2017 vintage last year, which amazed us with its freshness, depth, pleasantness, and elegance.

In the 2022 vintage we found the same characteristics as well , which gave us the perfect perception of a white wine that will be able to express itself with great excellence in the coming years, demonstrating a longevity attitude that has few equals in the winemaking panorama.

On the nose, there are clear scents of white fruit (peach, pear), but also citrus notes of grapefruit and exotic fruit (passion fruit). In the mouth, what can I say? An incredible harmony: that velvety sensation supported by an acidic texture that immediately lets you understand its aging capability.

We paired it with crostini with creamed cod, a simple yet extraordinary appetizer, made even more special by a truly memorable wine.
