The International Wine and Spirit Competition was founded in 1969 and is the premier competition of its kind in the world. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs.
The Competition receives entries from over 80 countries worldwide. No matter where the entry originates, whether it is youthful or aged, it is judged according to its class and treated with respect and consideration.
The IWSC has the support of many of the world’s top wine and spirits producers, because it sets the international benchmark for quality. The judging process is unrivalled, and is the only competition of its kind to conduct a full blind tasting (pre-poured numbered glasses) by panels selected from over 300 fully experienced and qualified industry judges followed by a chemical analysis. The unique combination of detailed technical analysis and specialist judging panels means that gaining a Competition Award is an outstanding achievement.
The Competition is backed by a group of vice presidents including some of the most influential men and women in the trade: Gina Gallo, Miguel Torres, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Marchese Piero Antinori, Robert Drouhin, Paul Symington, Peter Sichel, Dominique H�riard Dubreuil, Wolf Blass, Robert Mondavim Jean Hugel and May de Lencquesaing. 2011 sees Prince Robert of Luxembourg, Clarence Dillon�s great-grandson and Domaine Clarence Dillon�s President, as the IWSC President.
