This Barolo succeed in brilliantly combining elegance and drinkability. The proof is that its excellent quality matches with its capability to be extremely easy to drink, even though the Barolo is a very complex wine. Sordo is a master in creating wines that are authentic expressions of their own territory but with an eye to consumers, and not just a niche of super specialists. Today Sordo, after more than half a century of history, is a prestigious company with 53 hectares in some of the best terroirs in Barolo. Their Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is actually made of the Nebbiolo grapes coming from one of those best terroirs, in the municipality of Castiglione Faletto.
A Nebbiolo that is undisguisable, starting from its typical bright garnet colour. At the nose the alcohol is strong but well balanced, with notes of mixed berries and cherry, but also pepper and tobacco. In mouth it’s very refined with evident yet smooth tannins. A wine that states “you don’t need to be strong to be important”.
We paired it with a simple mix of great Italian cured meat cuts and it was a regal snack.
