If there is one wine that represents the value and rebirth of viticulture and viniculture in Sicily at best, it is surely the Chardonnay by Planeta. It is a wine that has shown how Sicily may be, and indeed is, one of the most interesting and single areas in the wine world. This wine is the icon of
Sicily, which shows also how the “terroir” factor deeply influences the characterisation of an international grape variety like Chardonnay. The grapes come from vineyards in Ulmo and Maroccoli in the province of Agrigento, and the result is a wine that can blend strength with elegance, and the use of French barriques for ageing in no way limits the richness of the fruit (exotic) if tasted young, or the balsam if enjoyed even when aged (an experience to be tried, which is also proof the great longevity of this Sicilian Chardonnay).
