When someone’s talking about Emilia region, probably the first thing that pops in mind is the association with legendary car brands like Ferrari or big names of the Italian culture as the one of the great composer Giuseppe Verdi. But Emilia is also the cradle of the Italian food and wine culture, starting from that king of wines, named Lambrusco.
Today Monte delle Vigne is one of the best producers of Lambrusco because it was able to give a new life and prestige to this great Italian wine. However, the value of Monte delle Vigne as a winemaker is beautifully expressed also by Nabucco (from the famous opera by Giuseppe Verdi), an original blend of a historical Italian grape such as Barbera and a more popular international variety like Merlot. Two grape varieties that found in Ozzano Taro, in the municipality of Collecchio, Parma, the ideal location to express their qualities.
Nabucco 2012 confirms its excellence in both strength and elegance that we already noticed at the nose. Intense notes of ripe cherry as well blackberry and blueberry, not to mention very pleasant notes of licorice and cloves that guarantee a valuable aroma complexity. At the palate it is very well balanced, even though tannins are still strong, giving longevity to this good Emilian red. The finish is long and it takes you back to that notes of red fruits from the beginning. Nabucco is born for food pairing, especially with the king of Italian cheese, Parmigiano Reggiano, aged 36 months. That is how we paired it and it was simply perfect.

MONTE DELLE VIGNE

In 1983, Andrea Ferrari began his business venture and founded Monte delle Vigne on these hills. This wine-making project is based on the belief of producing excellent wines working local vines.
Monte delle Vigne is rooted on the hills at 300 meters of height, which lead from the Po Valley to the highest peaks of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine.
The ancient route taken by pilgrims is the divide between the vineyards of white grapes of Malvasia and Sauvignon facing East and red grape vineyards of Barbera, Croatina and Lambrusco facing West.
They are interspersed with hedgerows and some semi-flat areas that offer Merlot and Chardonnay.
In the middle, the heart of the property, there is the new underground winery that allows gravitational wine pressing.
Perfectly integrated into the surrounding environment, it has been designed to achieve the highest quality results from what nature offers.
