It is the first Valpolicella Ripasso which has recently celebrated its first 20th anniversary, one of the wines that are most emblematic of the evolution of a winery whose heart and soul for over 50 years have been territory promotion and local grape varieties. We are talking about Zenato’s Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore, Ripassa. It has become a sort of “cult” brand on its own in the already rich oenological landscape of Valpolicella, a wine that played a crucial role in the making of the success of Ripasso, a style of wine that has seen an incredible growth on international markets over the years. We particularly enjoyed year 2013 because we found it very “fresh” compared to other years, usually softer and more rounded. We consider this as an added value because it makes this wine very elegant and easy to drink. Ripe cherry and black pepper are found on the nose. On the palate it’s very smooth with a final flavour of brandied red fruits. We paired it with a traditional dish from Verona, Bollito con la Pearà, and it was a bliss.

ZENATO

The Zenato winery was founded in 1960 by Sergio Zenato in the heart of Lugana, in Peschiera del Garda. Soon it was extended in the Valpolicella land, in Sant’Ambrogio, where wines of great tradition like Ripassa and Amarone are produced.
Today, the company continues thanks to the hard work of his wife Carla and his sons Alberto and Nadia, who consolidated and expanded the project begun by Sergio. The company is in constant evolution, but its values are the same as always: the respect of time, the human aspect, the love for the land and care for tradition.
