Tenuta Desmontà is located in the south-western part of the province of Verona, where Merlot and Cabernet grapes are grown in the winery’s vineyards on a mainly gravel soil.
In the municipality of Veronella the Ripasso tradition meets international grapes and Nero d’Arcole; it also fully expresses the culture of “appassimento” (drying of the grapes) which strongly captures the fullness of the fruit. Ri Nero is the name of this wine, or rather Ripasso and Nero d’Arcole to which is added the tradition of international berries demonstrating great adaptability. Extraordinarily performing in the geo-pedological framework of the Veronese area, they are processed with careful vinification: traditional pressing, fermentation at a controlled temperature and 20 days of “ripasso”, a very ancient enological technique already used several centuries ago by producers, but only recently recognized . The grapes are placed in contact for a variable period of time with the freshly pressed pomace of Nero d’Arcole, allowing to acquire part of the aromas and structure. This contact generates a second alcoholic fermentation from which it takes the name “Ripasso”.
A rich, versatile glass, with a slight residual sugar, the fruit is carefully selected in a significant quality path. It offers a sip in which blackberries, morello cherries, ripe plums stand out, a touch of pink pepper and sour cherry aromas. It requires important main courses of meat and rich aged cheeses. Extraordinary if it is drunk alone.
Company Profile
The history of the Bixio family dates back to 1866, when the Genoese Nino Bixio, Garibaldi’s lieutenant and right-hand man, found himself in the Verona area following the battle of Custoza, and lived a love story with a local noblewoman. Alfonso, born from the relationship between the two, owned some lands located in Soave and since then, for five generations now, the heirs of the family have been involved in the cultivation of vines and the production of excellent wines.
