Fattoria Varramista is a unique world, for its own history, for the geography of the place to which it belongs. Then there are the fruit and time, the pillars of a production philosophy that blends with the territory and with the wine culture that has always characterized the winery. The Villa and its Poderi, true style icons, are located in the heart of ancient Tuscany where the artistic, intellectual and productive scene has safeguarded a path of quality and unconditional love for Syrah, an international red grape variety, well adapted to the surrounding nature, on the ground and subsoil, with chestnut trees, holm oaks, shrubs and the special microclimate that positively interacts with the vineyard.
Varramista 2002 is a blend of Sangiovese and Syrah. The Sangiovese must (80%) is pre-macerated at 48°C for two days, drawn off and subsequently fermented in new barriques. It has a classic malolactic fermentation without racking and then an aging of 12 months in barrique. Syrah (20%) underwent fermentation in steel, malolactic fermentation in barrique where it remained for 14 months. The undisputed protagonist is Sangiovese which after 19 years maintains its crunchiness, fresh and defined profile. A sophisticated touch, a clean and long-lasting finish make it unique and extraordinary.
The sip, bright garnet red, also concentrates all the peculiarities of Syrah: the pomegranate, the juicy ripe cherries, a palette of incense and oriental spices, the chocolate that emerges in the background, accompany the enveloping of a tannin elegantly woven into a velvet warp. A crystallized, dreamlike age, inhabited by flavors and aromas suspended in time.

Fattoria Varramista S.p.A. is a Tuscan firm, with a past of noble Florentines families and modern entrepreneurs, that manufactures red wines in the wonderful Terre di Pisa land. In the ‘90s Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, who inherited the magnificent estate from his grandfather Enrico Piaggio, the inventor of Vespa scooter, implemented the re-conversion of the vineyards and production system under the guidance of Federico Staderini, the oenologist who carries on Dr. Agnelli’s project to date. The Sangiovese, the tipical Tuscan variety, was joined by some international varieties, like Syrah that was elected as the main grapevine and essential ingredient of Varramista, our cru. During the time we added three other wines, Frasca, Sterpato and Chianti Monsonaccio. Today we are focused on letting wine lovers and professionals visiting us and discovering how much attention and care we devote to our products.
